Chances of getting an army airborne Contract.?

What are the chances of getting an 11b with option 4 in the army. I called a recruiting center yesterday and asked about it the guy laughed and said you can't get an airborne contract while in enlist, he said I had to volunteer for it and AIT. Is this true I thought you get just get when you in enlist. I'm planning on doing DEP so is that why I can't get one?
