I can't stand the thought of having a bit in my mouth so I don't want to use one on my horse.?

I tried a bitless bridle but with my horse it was a joke (a scary one). She seems to do really well in a leather, fleeced lined, short-shanked mechanical hackamore. I am very lighthanded with her, I don't do a lot of pulling but I have heard so many different stories about the mechanical hackamore. Mine is very short-shanked and I heard this is much easier on the horse. People talk about how you can break their nose and how cruel they are, and all these horrible things. I can't imagine ever pulling that hard. If you are really knowledgeable about this please help me. Especially those of you with personal experience.
