Why do parents continue to lie to their children that Santa Claus is alive?

It's terrible. I'd just be honest. "I bought you these presents because I love you" but they go ahead and join the lie, "hinny Santa got you them" I mean why mess your kids up and lie? They will find out. This isn't a harmful lie, this is a big lie that has been kept around for years as some 'ritual'
